Colston Hall / Branding / Marketing communications

It’s not easy re-branding a concert hall that has to appeal to a variety of audiences, but that was the challenge set by Colston Hall, Bristol’s oldest and largest performance venue when it re-launched its identity to coincide with a new £20m build project.
Just to make life a little harder, Colston Hall wanted to ensure that the new identity preserved its history and heritage, whilst projecting a more forward thinking, contemporary, and relevant attitude as the venue sought to revive its reputation as the centre stage for Bristol’s live musical events.
We reviewed 140 years of performance heritage, and constructed a timeless logo based on concert hall architecture. Then we added a strong verbal identity that could be adapted to suit messages in support of music genres, promotions or special events.
The new brand transcends media and strikes a chord with everyone from classical enthusiasts to fans of children’s TV.
